INITIAL UK class 2 medical

What to expect at your INITIAL UK class 2 medical?

The medical will take about an hour, as there is a lot of data to input onto the CAA medical system.

You will need to come prepared. Please bring:

  • Photo identification
  • Your CAA reference number (so that we can find your record in Cellma)
  • Completed Med 162 form (see below)
  • Glasses and prescription (if relevant)

From March 29th 2021, you will complete the online application form in Cellma, which we will then go through together.

The medical involves a physical examination of heart, lungs, abdomen and nervous system. I will measure your height, weight, pulse and blood pressure. You will have your hearing and ears assessed.

You will need to provide a sample of urine for testing (I will provide a pot).

I may need to perform an ECG test, which will depend on your age and medical history. Sometimes the result of the ECG test needs over reading by a Consultant Cardiologist. The charge for this is £50 and is payable in advance, by you on the day of the medical.

Med 162 form

You will need to make an appointment at the optician for a routine eye test, which will cost about £20. Please download the Med 162 form, using the link, and ask the optician to complete it for you. Please ensure that the form is completed fully, signed and dated.

You will only need to do this at your initial medical, as I will do the necessary eye examination tests at renewal/revalidation medicals.

If you meet the medical standards required, I will issue the certificate on the day of your medical.

If you do not meet the standards required, then your medical will be deferred and you may need to have further tests and submit reports from other specialists. I will be able to guide you through the process. All extra costs are your responsibility.
